Molly & Scratch vs Cleo & Tutenstein (Disney vs Discovery Kids)
“You're in my world now, not your world. And I got friends on the other side.” - Dr Facilier
Molly McGee and Scratch, Brighton’s joyous resident alongside the gluttonous Chairman of the underworld.
Before We Start…
The media or both is pretty straightforward. Aside from their main shows, Molly and Scratch only have the Bandshell Boo-nanza! web game, which adds basically nothing.
Cleo and Tut on the other hand have 3 java games: Tutenstein Chase, Tutenstein Rising and Tutenstein Escape from the Underworld. Chase doesn’t seem to add anything, Rising I never finished because frankly fuck that game. I didn’t have the patience to finish it, so if it gives the secret sauce to 4D Tutenstein then I’ll eat my balls. Sadly, I couldn’t find Escape from the Underworld anywhere to play or download it, or even any videos. The only thing I was able to find was a handful of screenshots, but honestly I’d be shocked if it added anything. The marvel one shot comic will also be included, though obviously no Marvel cross scaling.
ChibiTiny Tales, Disney All-Stars Racers and Land of Nod, Jet Cat Clubhouse etc. will be discounted. Chibi Tiny Tales and Disney All-Stars Racers because, no duh. For the short Land of Nod comic, while it is where Tutenstein originates from, this version is very disconnected from the animated one. From the world he resides in, to his design to no Cleo or Luxor. Thus it will not be taken into account, along with any other appearances he’s made.
Background
Molly & Scratch
![]() |
“You've changed. You've made friends. You're brave now, brave enough to share yourself with the world. And even if you forget me, I know you won't forget that. You can't stay here Scratch, you've got to go live your life.”
“*sigh* Why you always gotta be right Mol?”
What if I told you there exists a separate realm in our reality? One a lot more, supernatural? What if I told one of its inhabitants lives in an abandoned house in a small town called Brighton? Well that would be none other than the lazy and gluttonous ghost named Scratch. He might not have the best reputation in the ghost world, but he certainly gets the job done. You see, a ghost’s job is to scare anyone from our world, and Scratch is the one that keeps the misery going in Brighton.
That is until a certain family moved into his home one day. Meet the McGees, a family that has moved out of many places, hoping this would finally be their forever home. That’s when Scratch came face to face with Molly McGee, an overly positive young girl that wishes nothing more than to “enhappify” the world. Scratch just saw the McGee family as a nuisance, but Molly was ecstatic to meet her new best friend. As retaliation, Scratch put a curse on her that would make him always be there to haunt her. But since Molly had no fear of him, this backfired into Scratch always being in her presence whenever she called his name.
This curse however, eventually became more of a blessing than a curse. After being around the family enough, he ended up loving and cherishing them. But as time went on, Molly would start to have questions about Scratch's past. Scratch didn’t know much either, as he could only remember bits and pieces. Together they’d slowly try to piece together what Scratch’s life was like before his death. Eventually a certain little incident would cause all the memories to flood in after briefly possessing a certain individual called Todd Mortenson. Todd was a person that never really “lived” his life, always too afraid to get out of his comfort zone. Too afraid to find a different job, too afraid to join his childhood friend on her adventures. This mind set is what eventually turned him into a wraith, someone who has literally given up the ghost. His soul left his body and so did his memories of his human life.
But now Scratch was too afraid to return back into his body, as this might result in him losing his memories as a ghost, his memories with Molly. But after one very heartfelt conversation, Molly convinced him that he should take the risk, as risks are what make us alive. His experiences had now made him brave enough to just go out there and live his life. He traveled the world, met back with his childhood friend, Adia, and most importantly, never forgot that little girl that changed his life, Molly McGee.

“Admit it mummy boy. You really do like it here.”
“I admit nothing! True, Egypt was my home once, but now everything, everyone I care about is here. And if home is the place where one's heart resides, then this is home. So says the pharaoh.”
Ancient Egypt has always been a very fascinating place. You know with their cats, pyramids and aliens. And the supreme political and religious leaders at the time that stood above all would be the Pharaohs. There have been many famous ones like Ramesses II and Cleopatra, but the one that withstood the test of time would be Tutankhansetamun. His time as Pharaoh would be cut short however, as he’d pass away at the young age of 10 under unknown circumstances.
Cut to 3000 years later, where we meet 12yo aspiring egyptologist, Cleo Carter. Cleo has always had a fascination with ancient Egypt and Egyptian mythology, something she inherited from her late father, an archeologist who vanished under mysterious circumstances while looking for an elusive relic called the Mirror of Isis. It was a day Cleo was looking very forward to, the day when young Tut’s mummified corpse would be put on display in the International Museum of World History. That night something incredible would happen however. After thunder struck the Pharaoh’s possessions, he was reawakened from his deep slumber. No longer was he Tutankhansetamun. Now he was the undead mummy with an annoyingly large ego, Tutenstein. This event would also affect Cleo’s pet cat, Luxor, turning him into the Pharaoh’s number 1 supporter for reasons that are honestly never really explained.
As you can imagine, Tut was pretty weirded out from his current circumstances. He no longer had his kingdom, his pyramids or his servants. But one thing that did stay with him was his all powerful Scepter of Was. With the help of this powerful relic and some new found friend, he’d always manage to put a stop on the nefarious plans of the Egyptian god of chaos, Set. Afterall, he’s gotta protect his kingdom and loyal subjects, as all there is belongs to the Pharaoh.
But one question still lingered on. How did he die? This mystery would plague his dreams as time went on. Eventually it all came back. The tomb he and his childhood friend, Nepka, were playing in would start to collapse all of a sudden. Using the scepter’s power, he’d make sure at the very least his precious friend would make it out alive, putting his life over his. Because despite how rude and egotistical he can, the Pharaoh cherishes his friends. He might sometimes miss his old home, but he knows he now belongs alongside his current friends, Luxor and Cleo Carter
Experience & Skill
Molly & Scratch
![]() |
Prior to meeting Molly, Scratch was doing a pretty good job keeping the misery going in Brighton, despite not being very well liked in the ghost world. Molly on the other hand was the sole reason joy returned to the town, so much that the Council had to send Jinx to assassinate her.
After Scratch was made Chairman he was able to defeat and trap all the Frightmares, trap the terrorizing Lord Doom into a doll and eventually, alongside Molly and their friends, put an end to Jinx’s plan to take over the human world.
Cleo & Tut
![]() |
Despite Tut’s uh, personality issues, he is very skilled in using the Scepter of Was and its various magical applications. Add that with Cleo’s vast knowledge of egyptology and they’ve been able to overcome any problem. They’ve constantly had to deal with Set and his various demons he’s sent after them, but always come out on top. Especially when Set has been around since the beginning of time. Cleo herself once had to use the scepter to save Tut from Set, and she did so with no prior experience with it.
On a few occasions Tut has shown to be able to trick various enemies either by ragebaiting them or making them hurt themselves with the scepter. While he has shown to be pretty scared if he’s without it, he overcame his fears if it meant saving Cleo.

The Chairman’s robe
![]() |
After Molly killed the Chairman of the ghost world, Scratch was made the new Chairman by the rest of the Council and thus inherited his robe.
The robe grants great power to the one who wears it. The most blatant example of it would be when Jinx used it to take over the ghost world. Now Scratch himself hasn’t shown any abilities outside what he can already do while wearing it, really mostly using it as an intimidation tactic or doing more impressive curses. But you could possibly give him stuff Jinx was able to do with it, like shooting lightning from her hands, transmutating objects into more sinister stuff and making the ghost world bleed into the human world.
Scratch eventually let go of the robe, creating a rule to where it will seek out whoever is worthy of it. However, since he used it for the majority of season 2, it should be counted.

Cleo & Tut
The Scepter of Was
A powerful artifact that belongs to the Pharaoh. Tut’s scepter is easily one of the most powerful items in existence, able to contend with the power of gods. So powerful in fact that in the wrong hands, it could easily be used to take over the world. Set himself implies that with it he could overthrow the entire Egyptian pantheon. And well, he’d be right considering it’s powered by the gods themselves. The scepter has also shown a limited amount of sentience, since it once refused to help Tut when he had lost it until he apologised.
The scepter has displayed numerous abilities, such as:
Opening portals that let Tut cross from the overworld to the underworld and vice versa. He can also use them to banish demons back into the Underworld
Shooting powerful energy blasts that can even harm the likes of Set. They can also bounce off walls
Glow in the dark
Amplify its physical strength
Telekinetically move stuff around
Transforming normal furniture into egyptian ones
Breaking Set’s sealing magic
Stopping time, though in a very roundabout way. He basically interrupted Ra’s trip to bring morning, which caused time to stop
Making mechanical doors close
Melting stuff
Making things to start floating
Open portals through time
Generally is used to call upon the gods sometimes
It should be noted Cleo herself can also use the scepter. Though not as proficient as Tut, she was able to get the hang of it quickly enough to be able to pull off making underworld portals and shooting energy blasts.
Magic scrolls
Tut has come across various scrolls whose contents he can use by speaking their incantations.
Scroll that changes people’s minds Freaky Friday style
Scroll that lets Tut telekinetically move whatever he gazes upon
Scroll that separated Tut’s shadow from himself. The Shadow could freely interact with the world and bring others’ shadows to life. The Shadow was pretty mischievous and wasn’t really listening to Tut up until its life was on the line. Plus if it didn’t return to him by sunrise he would’ve died.
The scroll of Thoth can provide someone with great knowledge (although Thoth doesn’t like people using his scroll)
Scroll that allowed Tut to get his human form back, given to him by the goddess Isis. With the help of a blue Ankh, anything its beam shoots will give its flesh and blood back and vice versa, such as when it turned Cleo and Luxor into skeletons. Once the Ankh is broken, the spell can no longer be used
Scroll that turns you into croc shit and one in hippo shit. These have never been used in action but are still there for use
Scroll that inflates you like a balloon (deviantart magic)
Scroll that enlarges your tongue
Scroll that that transformed Luxor into a lion
Scroll that can bring dead things to life
Scroll that undoes possession
Scroll that grants the Pharaoh's wishes. To what extent is unknown, as Tut only used it to make himself bigger and later on tiny by accident.
Cleo is also very much capable of using these scrolls too. While she rarely has throughout the series, she’s seen them in action and knows how to read them. She doesn’t study egyptology for nothing after all.
Shabitis
Small dolls that Tut can bring to life. They live to serve the Pharaoh and will finish any task he assigns them to perfection. They literally won’t stop until said task is finished. However the one time Tut used them was for cleaning services. They were able to spawn their cleaning equipment out of nowhere though, so I guess that’s something.
Necklace
Some random one-off necklace Tut used once as payment for a hotdog. Seems like it can enchant you into wanting to keep it One Ring style.
Crown of Geb
The crown that belongs to the Egyptian god of the Earth. By speaking the incantation on his crown, Geb can be summoned from the underworld.
Chariot
It’s never explained where the hell Tut got this. Don’t even need the horse, he can just make it ride itself.
Ankh
The symbol of long life and the item that’s keeping Tut at 10 forever. After wanting to grow up to do grown up stuff, Tut broke it, which resulted in him rapidly aging in a span of 2 days. Thankfully he learned his lesson before disintegrating, so Atum, the creator of the world, gave him a new one..
Wedjat Eye amulet
A special amulet that Horus gave to Tut when he made him a god. It’s stated to ward off evil. In what way is unknown since it didn’t really do anything against Set. In fact Set managed to crack it which means Horus might be on fraudwatch.
Phone
Cleo’s phone…which doesn’t look like one but it probably is. She uses it a lot throughout her series to search for further information on Egyptian gods, deities or items.
Skateboard
Cleo knows how to kick it. Tut was also interested in learning how to skateboard so she taught him as well.
Mirror of Isis
An ancient mirror that Cleo’s dad was searching for before his disappearance. A powerful relic that was originally owned by Cleopatra herself. By speaking its incantation, Cleo and Tut can freely travel through time.
Abilities
Molly & Scratch
Ghost physiology
![]() |
Ghosts are composed of ectoplasm, a very soft and slimy substance. It’s the reason they have very squishy bodies. Ectoplasm itself is very slippery, as it has caused people to slip and fall on a few occasions. But perhaps Scratch's best aspect of his ghost body would be his ability to regenerate from practically any kind of damage. Be it being riddled with holes, getting cut in half, blowing up, getting splattered all over the pavement or being burned to ash, Scratch will reform his body back as new.
Curses
![]() |
Scratch is capable of inflicting curses on people. While some of them are not really useful in a direct confrontation, thanks to the chairman’s book he was able to get his hands on a handful of useful ones.
When he first met Molly, he put a curse on her to where he’d always be there to haunt her. This backfired as Molly wasn’t really scared of him and any time she called his name, he’d be pulled towards her. This curse was eventually broken when the McGees lost their house for a short time, but it really doesn’t matter considering he ended up loving the family anyways
Put a curse between him and Molly to where he can only say “no” and she can only say “yes” for a day
A curse that was able to transfer Molly’s luck to a coin, making anyone that carried it inherit the luck
Put a curse on Lord Doom to where he’d be bound to the first object he sees. He used a similar curse to trap all the Frightmares into June’s phantom canister
Curse that turns you to 30 years old (never actually used though)
Curse that that opens a portal into someone’s subconscious
Curse that made Molly fearless for the next 24 hours
Curse that allowed Molly to restart the day whenever she waved her hand
Shapeshifting
![]() |
Scratch’s most prominent and common ability. Thanks to being composed of ectoplasm, his body has a very malleable nature. Be it changing his form into a hot air balloon, extending his eyes into binoculars, turning into a bat, turning into fire, stretching his body, creating extra limbs etc., the sky is the limit.

![]() |
Molly has shown a limited amount of 4th wall awareness on a few occasions. There’s times where she’s shown to be aware of the background songs and some characters have shown interacting with text effects.
Cleo & Tut
Mummy physiology
Thanks to Tut being a living mummy, he comes packed with your classic zombie abilities like being fine after having his limbs severed or losing his head. He can also control his limbs even if they’re separated from his body. His more unique advantages though include making use of his bandages. He can use them to trip up enemies, bungee jump or even use them to extend his reach.
He also fucking reeks.
Godhood
Tut one day decided he wanted to become a god. After he kept pestering Horus about it, the god of kingship eventually gave in and granted his wish. With this power Tut was able to spawn a bunch of ice cream and fly. So yeah, not the most versatile of uses. Eventually he gave them back after learning being Pharaoh is enough.
Ba & Ka
Tut can split the Ba and Ka of his soul into two copies of himself. Ba is kind and gentle while Ka is a fucking asshole. But they’re honestly more trouble than they’re worth, especially Ka. If Tut isn’t reunited with them by sundown, he will die.
Griffith form
After a love spell made Cleo irresistible to any boy, Tut tried to fix things with a spell that gets rid of unwanted suitors. This was done by turning Cleo into a griffith. This gave her the ability of flight, sharp claws and made her furious towards him.
Lake powers
After being stuck in the underworld without the scepter, Cleo and Tut had to drink from a fiery lake in order to save themselves from a pair of fire monsters. This lake grants powers to those that are pure of heart. They were able to create barriers that repelled enemies on contact, throw balls of fire and fly. It’s unknown if they kept these powers for the rest of the episode, since they didn’t use them again but it was never implied they had lost them.
Support
Molly & Scratch
Ghost Shark
After Molly, Scratch and Daryll watched a movie about a ghost shark, Scratch commanded it to appear in order to prove that it doesn’t exist and there’s nothing to be afraid of. Surprise surprise, it appeared. In actuality however, it’s revealed that Scratch accidentally created it rather than summon it, and was unknowingly controlling it the entire time. After realising this, he made it take a more cute appearance and it ended up living with him. He can always revert back to its menacing form however.
The shark doesn't do a whole lot aside from swim through the ground and have really sharp teeth.
Cleo & Tut
Luxor
Cleo’s cat and Tut’s 1# servant. The day Tut was revived, Luxor was also granted the ability of human speech and a strange devotion to the Pharaoh. The reason is unknown, but either way, he’s always been by their sides throughout their adventures. Whenever Tut needs his services, his eyes will glow green and he will come running. His size and speed has allowed him to take the scepter away from enemies who’ve tried to take it away. Plus Tut can always turn him into a lion.
Bennu Bird
A legendary bird that is said to have created everything. Tut called upon its power to recreate his kingdom. This was done by turning the entire city into ancient Egypt and the citizens into ancient Egyptians that now served the pharaoh. Cleo however was immune to the mind control, for some reason. This process however also brought catastrophes of the time like a flood. So they had to stop the bird, otherwise the changes would’ve been permanent by sundown.
Hedgeworth
After wanting to help Luxor with his duties, Tut consulted Thoth for help, who gave him Hedgeworth. Sadly he’s not the brightest and was only used as a butler, so he doesn’t have a whole lot going for him.
Ghost
A ghost whose name I have no idea how to write. He used to be a magician who turned his enemies into bugs and fed them to scorpions. Upon death the gods banished him to the underworld as one of the unjustified dead. Tut summoned him on Halloween in order to give Cleo and her friends an authentic scare. He has your classic ghost abilities like passing through walls and appearing out of nowhere, but can also turn his body into that of a snake. He eventually had to be stopped since his true goal was to eat Cleo’s friends and destroy their Ka, the spark of life within everyone.
The All-Seeing Eye of Atum-Ra
After getting jealous of Cleo hanging out with someone else, Tut called upon Atum-Ra’s eye to spy on her. Anything the eye sees, Tut will too with the help of a portal.
The gods
Tut is protected by the gods themselves. Despite his many flaws, they have assisted him in many ways whenever he calls for their help.
Hathor, goddess of love. She can put people under love spells that make them irresistible to anyone and can transform into different goddesses. She was able to turn into Sekhmet, which gave her great speed, strength and the ability to shoot beams from her eyes
Ra, god of the sun. He can shoot beams that have the power of the heat of the sun
Bes, protector of children. He can also put people under love spells and telekinetically move stuff around
Geb, god of the earth. He causes earthquakes when laughing and can conjure landslides
Horus, lord of the sky. He can create powerful chains that bind enemies, and can even work on things like Set’s eye beams
Baal, god of thunder. He carries a thunderbolt that shoots lightning
Sobek, the crocodile god. He…doesn’t really do anything special other than bite stuff
Sekhmet, annihilator of the wicked. She granted Tut 2 soldiers to command (which he lost almost instantly cause he couldn’t command shit), can generate lightning around her when she gets mad and can be assumed to be able to do anything that Hathor did when she transformed into her
Osiris, ruler of the underworld. His beams were able to send Set away
Tut has called upon other gods too, but they’ve either ignored him or just didn’t do anything noteworthy to bring up in a vs scenario.

Cleo & Tut
Egyptian gods and deities
Now Cleo and Tut physically scaling to the gods is a topic that will be talked about in BtV, but the Scepter of Was would undoubtedly scale. It is fueled by the gods, has hurt beings that can contend with other gods like Set and Apep and has been stated that its power is great enough to rule the underworld.
Weaknesses
Molly & Scratch
Molly’s and Scratch’s biggest flaws would be Molly being overly optimistic while Scratch is overly pessimistic. While Molly has good intentions, her lengths to “enhapify” something can make her very stubborn and obsessive to an almost deranged degree. Scratch on the other hand tends to be rude, lazy and very self serving, with his main motivation usually being food. This laziness is what allowed Jinx to get the Chairman's robe to rule the ghost world and almost rule the human world too.
They also just don’t have much experience in a head on confrontation. Scratch never personally deals with any big threats, especially without his robe, which can easily be stolen. While Molly destroying the Flow of Failed Phantom and killing the Chairman seems impressive, it really isn’t considering her entire being was basically poison to their world.
Cleo & Tut
Cleo and Tut’s biggest weakness is well, Tut himself. He’s incredibly full of himself, very immature and tends to be pretty rude. The majority of the problems they have to deal with are created by Tut messing around with magic. As a result, it’s unlikely they’d use any of the spells that caused a lot of long term problems. And perhaps their biggest flaw would be that a lot of their abilities are tied to the scepter. While certain scrolls and abilities don’t require the scepter, it’s still their most useful asset which can be stolen. Tut has shown to be very scared of confrontation without the scepter at certain times, although he he been able to overcome it.
Before The Verdict
Brighton goes up in flames
So in the “Saving Christmas” episode a chain reaction causes Brighton’s Christmas decorations to go up in flames, ending with a shot of the entire town burning up that could be seen from space. While very impressive, it’s not really treated as a durability feat. No one gets affected, no one looks burnt and everyone still has their clothes on. So it’s really nothing more than a visual gag.
The music segments
So the series has a lot of musical segments. As already established, these have been acknowledged on a few occasions by characters reacting to what some of the lyrics said or even just slightly interacting with transitions. This is important, because some of these will take a more “fantastical” portrayal of the events they’re singing about. Like for example, “If You Believe" is just a montage of Molly’s baseball game, pretty normal overall. But songs like “One Best Friend” have Molly and Libby fighting in a colosseum over Molly’s friendship. These give Scratch abilities like transmutating a painting into a sword or making 5 copies of himself. So are they usable?
Nah, I doubt it. Aside from the fact these abilities have never been shown outside these songs, they’re just pretty obviously not meant to be real. I mean one of them has Libby turn a bracelet into a blade like come on. Obviously this doesn’t apply to a good majority of them, just the more crazy ones.
Bennu Bird created everything
This one is also pretty straightforward. The Bennu Bird is said to have created the world…and that’s it. There’s no visual, no time frame or anything else about it. So uh yeah, no uni Tutenstein unfortunately.
Tut physically scaling to the gods
So in one episode, Tut gets blasted by one of Set’s eye beams and is completely fine by it. This is a pretty big deal, considering it’d mean Tut can physically tank attacks from gods. Set’s power specifically was able to trap the likes of Osiris and even Ra, you know Mr I can become the sun. Set himself has even survived getting blasted by the heat of the sun.
However there is one teeny little thing that can throw a wrench in the whole argument: Tut was a god at the time. This is the episode that Tut was pestering Horus about wanting to become a god, until he eventually gave in and made him one temporarily. And he still was one when fighting Set and got blasted by him. So obviously, this means Tut normally isn’t that durable and can only scale with this amp, right? Well…the thing is that while yes, he was a god at the time, there was never any indication that becoming one amped his physical stats. He only ever did 2 things with his godhood and never portrayed any sort of physical amp. So while it’s not an unreasonable assumption to make, you could also pretty easily argue against it.
Ultimately it’s gonna come down to preference and whether I used it or not will be talked about in the verdict.
Verdict
Stats
In terms of strength, Molly and Scratch would scale to the likes of Ezekiel and the Ice Princess creating storms over Brighton, ranging from town to country level. The scaling would really only be applicable through the robe, considering normally there’s no scaling chain to them. But this really doesn’t matter when Scratch made a multi continental level burp, getting far higher than the aforementioned storm feats.
However, this pales in comparison to the Scepter of Was. It consistently overpowers Set, who survived getting blasted by the heat of the sun, which gets a small planet. We also have Ra, who can just turn into the sun. Set is powerful enough to seal Ra, Apep always fights him on his river trips and the gods themselves just power the scepter. So yeah, some pretty blatant star level scaling.
But the big question is whether Cleo and Tut could physically scale to that power. They themselves honestly really lack any major physical feats, so without it Molly and Scratch would absolutely decimate them in physicals. Well as already mentioned in BtV, there is an avenue for it via Tut getting blasted by Set, which would make a pretty easy scaling chain. While he was a god at the time, it’s never mentioned or implied his physical stats were affected, so I find it unlikely this played a factor.
So at that point the only counter would be outlier. Which uh sure, you can go with that I guess. But narratively, I’d say it’s no different from Scratch having the strongest feat in the series. Any other far more impressive ghost, like Ezekiel, the Ice Princess or Jinx with the robe, Scratch never contended with or could only best with the help of the robe, like the Frightmares. So him being stronger than them normally would uh, be pretty weird.
I could honestly go with the outlier route and say they both get their best scaling through the robe and the scepter, but I wouldn’t agree with that, so at that point Cleo and Tut would sweep strength.
Speed is thankfully a lot more straightforward. Molly and Scratch’s best feat would be Scratch hitting a baseball past the moon, which gets 0.42c. There’s also Scratch flying high up into the sky in a very short amount of time until he reached a total freezing point, which gets mach 1.249. While obviously immensely slower than the baseball one, it does give them some pretty solid movement speed.
Cleo and Tut on the other hand were able to close their eyes fast enough to not get hypnotized by an eye beam, which they later used a piece of glass to reflect, getting 0.515c. There’s also a similar feat done by Cleo, when she used a mirror to deflect an energy attack, getting 0.856c getting slightly higher.
So Molly and Scratch have overall way better travel speed, but in terms of reaction speed the difference is incredibly small for both duos, so this category would be a Tie.
Arsenal, Abilities & Support
Molly and Scratch honestly don’t get a whole lot of items to bring to the table. There’s mundane items like Molly’s bicycle, a crowbar, baseball bats etc. Scratch’s jalapeno crunches allowing him to spit fire isn’t too bad, but nothing game changing. The robe, while very powerful, doesn’t really give him any noteworthy abilities he couldn’t already do. You could say he can perform stuff Jinx did when she used it, but she only really did 3 stuff with it. The transmutation could be really useful, but it was never used on humans and it’s less transmutation and more like changing stuff into more sinister versions of what they already are. Plus Scratch isn’t gonna be using it to bring hell on earth because, well he’s a good guy. The book of rare curses is by far the most useful item he has, but sadly we only ever got to see a handful of its contents.
Their natural abilities on the other hand is a different case. Scratch can change his body in a bunch of different ways, telekinetically move stuff around, create portals to the ghostworld, shrink himself into tiny sizes, become invisible to anyone but Molly, teleport, possess people and, of course, put curses on anyone.
Molly on the other hand unfortunately doesn’t offer a whole lot. She has her magic tricks, which offer some limited telekinesis and possible flight, and she can also jinx you into terrible misfortune, something both of them can do. Although it seems like a very unlikely move to pull in the middle of a fight, like they’d have to banter against people they don’t know and randomly guess what they're about to say. But by becoming a wraith, she can become a ghost just like Scratch and would have access to his ghost abilities…maybe. She might be able to perform more basic abilities like invisibility and some limited form of shapeshifting, and we have seen her open a portal from the ghost world to the human world, but she’s never displayed the stuff Scratch does on the regular. While it isn’t unlikely she could, it’d be hard to argue her to be pulling up with curses and teleportation. Her signature ability however would be her joy powers. Due to naturally being full of joy and whimsy, she was able to “enhappify” anything she touched in the ghost world, kill the Chairman and destroy the flow of flailed phantoms. While they’re visually very impressive, they are also just very hyper specific in their usage. The only reason they are so potent is because the ghost world is a place built on misery, so her whole being acts as poison to their world. So unfortunately, they’d only be super useful against similarly negative beings or abilities.
Now let’s move on to Cleo and Tutenstein. Some of their equipment is honestly pretty useless. Tut’s chariot can offer some transportation but that’s it, the Shabitis could maybe be used for combat but we never saw them do anything aside from cleaning stuff, the Wedjat Eye Amulet straight up does nothing, and Cleo’s phone and skateboard are not anything crazy to talk about.
So let’s shift our eyes towards the Scepter of Was: Tut’s iconic and greatest asset. With it he can open portals to the Underworld, telekinetically move stuff around, shoot powerful energy blasts, find anything and anyone, stop time, melt stuff, make you float in the air and open portals through time. Cleo can also pretty easily use the scepter in case it comes to it. While she hasn’t shown the same range of abilities while using, she was able to learn how to open portals and shoot energy blasts after like, a few minutes of getting her hands on it. Plus, she has seen pretty much all of these abilities in action, so it’s safe to say she can probably replicate them.
And we also can’t forget the various scrolls that Tut has in his possession. Now to be fair, a few of them are uh, not very useful. Separating his shadow or acquiring Thoth’s knowledge created very big problems for them in the long run, and making himself human again isn’t really gonna offer anything. However some of them are really useful, like changing people’s minds around, telekinetically moving whatever he gazes upon, inflate you like a balloon, turn you into shit, undo possession and grant wishes (though it was only used for changing his size)
So let's see how they can match and counter each other. Both can freely travel through the ghost world/underworld, so no trapping each other on the other side. Both can telekinetically move stuff around (albeit Scratch’s a little more impressive via being able to do a lot more stuff at the same time). Scratch could possess one of them, but thankfully they have a scroll just for that, which either Cleo or Tut can use. Scratch has shown possessing many items at the same time, but never humans. You could argue Molly can also possess the other one at the same time, but she’s never done this so it’s a pretty unlikely scenario. Becoming tiny makes Molly and Scratch harder to spot, but the scepter can lead you to anyone you desire to find. And that’s kinda it, so let’s look at their more unique options.
Scratch’s shapeshifting, while very versatile, is not gonna be a gamechanger in a direct fight. Teleportation is really good, but I doubt Scratch is gonna be spamming it and moving like Bankai Ichigo. Molly’s joy powers are also just straight up useless sadly, as Cleo and Tut would be unaffected by them and don’t even have any kind of negative based abilities or items. Scratch has various curses he can put on them but honestly almost all of them are useless. They either don’t add anything in a vs scenario or are extremely situational in their usage. Sealing ghosts into items would be really useful, if well, Cleo and Tut were ghosts. It has never been used on a human, which pretty obviously is because ghosts can possess objects while humans can’t.
But there’s 2 abilities here that are gonna be really useful. One would be their invisibility, which would make them impossible to see or even hear. The scepter could maybe detect them, but it would still make them hard to deal with. The other one would be the one useful curse: giving Molly the ability to reset the day. This is by far their best trump card, as Cleo and Tut have no counter to it, giving them basically infinite attempts to continue the fight. I doubt they’d be pulling it any time soon, but it’s still a very useful option.
For Cleo and Tut, well there’s a good amount of scepter abilities that don’t add anything that I didn’t mention, because well, I’m assuming readers would’ve already seen them and would have pretty easily deduced how useless they’d be. However they do have some pretty useful ones Molly and Scratch don’t really have an answer to. They can throw them to the past, make them float endlessly, swap their minds around, stop time or even just blast them to smithereens, considering any blast from the scepter would one shot them.
So it’s not looking good for Molly and Scratch, as Cleo and Tut just have more ways to deal with them and straight up one shot them, while their most useful ability is something unlikely to do any time soon.
…but there’s just one teeny widdle problem. Ghosts have really good regeneration. Scratch has shown reforming his body from exploding, getting splattered and even burning to ash. Molly would also share the same kind of regeneration in her ghost form. This would mean they’d be able to return from any kind of damage Cleo and Tut could dish out. This is very important, because it’s gonna be very apparent real soon that that scepter needs to go. Scratch can really easily just telekinetically steal the scepter and send it through a portal to god knows where in the ghost world. I mean just getting blasted once is probably enough to make it obvious to him to get rid of it. Considering a lot of Cleo and Tut’s good stuff come from the scepter, losing it will make all the difference.
So let’s look at what they can bring to the table in case the scepter is gone. Well the scrolls are still an option, as some of them don’t really need the scepter to be used, like the mind swapping one or the turning you to shit one. In terms of natural abilities, Tut's zombie nature would help in surviving any fatal attacks. He does have his god powers, but he did the bare minimum with them and also gave them up at the end of the episode. Ba and Ka are straight up gonna be more of a hindrance than an asset, as they provide nothing special on their own. Cleo gets flight and sharp claws with her griffith form, but it’s nothing noteworthy. Their lake powers would be pretty useful, as it would allow them to freely fly, create barriers to protect themselves and fire fireballs. It’s unknown if they kept them for the rest of the episode, but I’ll be generous and let them have them.
But there's also one more very useful item they can still pull out, and that would be the Mirror of Isis. This would allow them to send Molly and Scratch in the past, and considering that’s the only thing it can do, its usage will be very straightforward. Now this wouldn’t kill them, as they’d be able to live out that time as ghosts, but it would remove them from the area long enough for Cleo and Tut to win through BFR. It’s not like Molly or Scratch are smart, petty or dedicated enough to plan out their demise until then.
So to conclude, Molly and Scratch have one really useful ability that it’s unlikely for them to use any time soon. Cleo and Tut on the other hand have a lot more game winning options via making them float indefinitely, sending them to the past, turning them into croc/hippo shit and have ways to give themselves more time to think of their options like switching their minds around or stopping time.
Due to their ghost physiology giving them really good regeneration, it’s very likely for Molly and Scratch to soon figure out that they’d need to get rid of the Scepter of Was, which they can easily do. But Cleo and Tut still have ways to keep themselves going via their lake powers and some of the scrolls. The Mirror of Isis especially provides another, more sure fire way to send Molly and Scratch to the past, removing them long enough for them to win. Cleo and Tut take arsenal and abilities.
But there’s still one more category that’s really gonna put the nail in the coffin, and that is their support.
Molly and Scratch can call upon the Ghost Shark, which uh, he sure is gonna change the game alright. He really doesn’t add anything, like come on.
Some of Cleo and Tut’s support though is also not very useful. Hedgeworth does nothing, Atum-Ra’s eye is just a really good surveillance system and that one ghost lost all its powers at the end of the episode, was gonna kill them in the first place and on the random off chance they do call him, Molly’s joy would incinerate him. The Bennu Bird is actually really useful, as it can cause a city wide mind control that Cleo and Tut would be immune to, but it’s unlikely they’d call it considering the severe long term problems it causes.
Luxor however, is a humongous asset in this fight surprisingly enough. Remember how Molly and Scratch’s invisibility could make things difficult for Cleo and Tut? Remember how its one fatal flaw is that animals can still see them? Well our little furry friend here is a perfect counter to this, as he’d be able to relay that info on Cleo and Tut. Hell, with his lion form, he can personally beat them up himself.
And perhaps their best help would come from the fucking egyptian gods themselves. Don’t even need to call them, they already watch over Tut and are on his side, despite the troubles he sometimes causes for them. You have Geb generating landslides, Hathor and Bes can mind control via love spells, Osiris can just send you far away. I mean Ra shoots you with the heat of the sun, that might just vaporise Molly and Scratch with nothing to come back from.
Support handily goes to Cleo and Tut.
Tertiary Factors
I was originally gonna talk about the usual Experience and Skill category, but I wanna be different so I’ll talk about them through the Teamwork of both duos and how useful they’re gonna be for each other.
If it’s not already obvious, Scratch and Tutenstein are pretty much gonna be doing most of the stuff each side can dish out, but to fully grasp which duo is the most capable, we’re gonna look into what Molly and Cleo themselves can provide. And well, Carter kinda blows McGee out of the water. As already established, Molly has never displayed almost any of the abilities Scratch does on the regular, with her biggest unique aspect (her joy) being useless. Cleo on the other hand, is fully capable of using the scepter or any kind of scroll. Scratch is ultimately gonna be carrying them for basically the entire fight, while Cleo can pick up the slack should something happen to Tut. Plus her lake powers > magic tricks.
This is not even mentioning how Cleo and Tut have been through thick and thin multiple times. Molly and Scratch haven’t really, ever been in any kind of fight. If anything, Scratch has actively never done anything against any major threat without the robe. When Ezekiel got mad and turned into a tornado? He ran away to get his sister to stop him. When Jinx took over the ghost world? Couldn’t even compare to power and had to rely on a sneak attack to remove the robe. And even with the robe, he still has only used it to intimidate enemies or just seal them away. Sure there was the time Scratch was abducted and Molly went into the ghost world, destroyed the flow of failed phantoms, killed the Chairman and saved, but all of this was a cakewalk thanks to her very whimsy nature.
Cleo and Tut constantly deal with Egyptian deities, Set and all kinds of demons he sends after them, but always come out on top. Hell, there’s even a similar episode where Tut gets abducted by Set, with Cleo learning how to use the scepter in a few minutes, going into the underworld, defeating Set and saving mummy boi, all done naturally.
Cleo Carter and Tutenstein have the superior teamwork.
Conclusion
In the stat department, both duos were very close in speed, but attack potency tells a different story, as Cleo and Tut ap stomp horribly.
However Molly and Scratch’s incredible regeneration could keep them in the game long enough to pull off the one curse that could change everything. However, that is one win condition compared to their plethora of options Cleo and Tut can use to end the fight or just give them more time to pull off their win cons, even with the all powerful Scepter of Was taken out of the equation.
Cleo and Tut also had the overall superior support, as Ghost Shark pales in comparison to the usefulness Luxor and the Egyptian pantheon they provide
And lastly, Cleo and Tut have the greater teamwork via actual experience in various confrontations, with both being able to pick up where the other left off, compared to Scratch who’s gonna be doing all the heavy lifting.
